Disneyland's Hidden Secrets Part Two

My first “Disneyland’s Hidden Secrets” post did so well, so here’s part 2! These are just some more of the secrets hidden in Disneyland that I’ve found from all corners of the internet, including from my own experiences at the park. Try to look for some yourself when the park reopens!

The Coca-Cola Refreshment Pattern

On Main Street if you look closely up at the entrance of the coca-cola refreshment shop, you’ll see a pattern of red and white lightbulbs. Red, white, red, white, red…. and white? Whoever was painting or installing the lightbulbs messed up the pattern in the corner, so instead of redoing it all, they painted the corner light bulb to be half red, half white to satisfy the pattern. Works for me!

Books and Paintings

While riding Mr.Toad’s Wild Ride, take a closer look at the details in each scene. In the middle window of the constabulary on the upper left, you can see the silhouette of Sherlock Holmes. Look for him just after leaving the pub room, or maybe he’ll spot you first!

Another iconic person you might see is in Pinocchio’s Daring Journey during the pleasure island scene. Look closely into the loot, do you see a woman smiling, but not really smiling? Yes, Mona Lisa is featured in the ride.

Hauntingly Real

One of my favourite scenes from the Pirates of the Caribbean ride is the skeleton laying in bed with the magnifying glass. It’s humorous, but still a little creepy. What made it even more chilling is when I heard about the skull ABOVE the skeleton. It’s rumored that the skull on the headboard is real.

Listen Carefully…

There are several interactive parts of the park, but you have to look and listen carefully for them.

  • In the telegraph cable office, you can hear Walt Disney’s opening speech given in Morse code.

  • In Main Street USA in the alley where the ice cream stand is and the painless dentist office, you can hear dentist tools drilling and conversations between the dentist and their patient, to further show the idea that the buildings are “real”.

  • In the well in Snow White’s Grotto, if you lean in and listen you can hear the princess herself singing to her prince.

  • On the Jungle Cruise during the native scenes, listen for one of them shout “I love disco!”.

Tomorrowland is Stuck in the Past

In the gift shop outside of Space Mountain, look up as opposed to forward. You may see a transport case high on a shelf with the number 07171955 on it. This is the date of Disneyland’s opening day.

In the queue for Space Mountain, look for the panel that says “Space Station 77”. The number 77 appears around the ride as this is the ride’s debuting year, 1977.
