Disneyland's Hidden Secrets

During my trip to Disneyland California in August of 2018, I made it my mission to find all of the hidden secrets that I was able to gather from all corners of the internet. I wrote them all down in a small notebook and carried it with me each day to the park until I found all of them. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find all of them, but these are the ones I did see, that are worth going to look at for yourself.

W for Walt, R for Roy

In New Orleans Square above the Pirates of the Caribbean ride, there’s Walt’s old private apartment intended for him and his brother Roy. We know this because among the teal colored railings, is a gold W, and a gold R.

The Test Brick Wall

There’s a lot of new additions to the park, but the best parts of the park are the things that have remained since opening day in my opinion. One of these things is the test brick wall on Main Street USA. It’s near the lockers and has a water fountain attached to it. All of Disney’s cast members know about it and can point it out to you too. The bricks are misshapen because they are made from a different type of brick that they were testing out that didn’t end up working out too well, however, they kept it anyway for unknown reasons.

Winnie the Pooh Storage?

As you’re riding the Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, when you leave the honey room with Pooh covered in honey on the wall, look behind you at the top of the doorway. You’ll see a nostalgic, yet creepy, surprise. You’ll see Max, Buff, and Melvin from the old country bear jamboree mounted up there like taxidermy. It seems as though Disney wanted to keep them somewhere, so they stored them in Winnie the Pooh, where no one would think to look.

Indiana Eeyore

Another friendly animal you may be able to spot is in the queue of the Indiana Jones ride. We all know that queue to be the longest but most entertaining one, there’s always something to look at. As you’re leaving the room with the projection screen in it with the narrator preparing you for the ride, look up and to the back of the room, you may see a picture of Eeyore. Indiana Jones was built on top of the old Eeyore themed parking lot!

Entrances That Never Exited

One of the first water rides at Disneyland, the Motor Boat Cruise, closed down in 1991 after costs got too high during the construction of Toontown. It laid between Fantasyland and Tomorrowland, and the original loading area became a smoking area in the 1990s, but now is not. The loading area is still there, now called Fantastia Gardens, where guests can sit and relax by the water.

While I was on my trip in 2018, I was lucky enough to see the last of the Skyway entrance before it got tore down to make room for the new Star Wars land. The Skyway was a ride that closed in 1994 due to maintenance issues, as the cable car ride rode through the top of the Matterhorn, and they couldn’t take down the mountain to work on it. The entrance to the ride stayed in Fantasyland beside the Storybook land Canal Boats for years, they demolished it in 2017 but left the railings to the staircase in the greenery, but that was taken away in 2018.

Snow White, the 8th Dwarf

In Snow White Grotto next to the Sleeping Beauty Castle, there is a wishing well and a fountain with statues of Snow White, some animals, and the seven dwarfs. When Disney first received these statues, they realized the manufacturers made Snow White the same size as the dwarfs, and it was too late to send them back. To accomodate, they put her at the top of the fountain, to give the illusion that she’s bigger than she really is.

These are just some of the secrets I was able to find that I felt were worth sharing. There are others of course, like the coca cola refreshment shop light bulb, and the hidden Mickey’s, but I really suggest you check these ones out. Maybe I’ll do a part two someday! Let me know some of the secrets you’ve found!
