Top 10 Most Iconic Disney Songs Ever

There are hundreds of Disney overtures, end titles, solo, group, and duet songs, so it can be very hard to think about which ones people know the most. My favorite soundtrack is the Mary Poppins one, but it could be the Little Mermaid for someone else. I’ve compiled a list of songs that I think no matter how much you love Disney or hate Disney, you know these songs regardless. Here are my top 10 most iconic Disney songs from the classic films ever:

10. When You Wish Upon A Star (Pinocchio)

Although the lyrics are not the most well known, when you think Disney, you definitely think of this song. This is the song of Disneyland, was featured in Pinocchio which is the second Disney movie to be made ever, and is oozing with hope. It takes me back to dreaming as a child, and feels the most nostalgic. This is the song of Disney without a doubt. It’s message is spot on with what Walt wanted to convey to the world.

9. Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious (Mary Poppins)

One of the most impressive things to me is that this word doesn’t autocorrect or has a red underline. A completely made up word (although, I guess all words are made up), made it to the vocabulary of millions around the world for generations. The Sherman Brothers did it again, boys.

8. Reflection (Mulan)

Haven’t we all had our Mulan, looking at your reflection in a pond and singing dramatically, moment? This song is perfect for those rainy, slow days. Even if you’ve never watched Mulan, you probably know the chorus to this one.

7. Hakuna Matata (The Lion King)

Hakuna Matata, it means no worries, for the rest of your days. I’m sure someone’s got this as their graduation send off biography. Whether you were a fan of The Lion King or not, you for sure knew what these words together meant. It’s a good slogan to live by, just like the bare necessities.

6. Once Upon a Dream (Sleeping Beauty)

This one ties with A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes from Cinderella for me, but they have similar vibes. When people think of Sleeping Beauty they either think of her in her pink dress, or in the scene where she’s dancing with the Prince, which has got to be my favorite one.

5. Be Our Guest (Beauty and the Beast)

The most upbeat and energetic song of the film, Be Our Guest is one of my favorites, probably because I have bias toward Lumiere. A lot of the lyrics are quite detailed and can be fast, so I’m sure majority of the population could only really sing “be our guest, be our guest, be our guest”

4. The Bare Necessities (The Jungle Book)

I have to admit, I haven’t rewatched the Jungle Book since I was very little. The one thing that I could never forget is the song The Bare Necessities. It is such a good song for when you forget the simple things in life that you should be grateful for, and it’s all you need.

3. A Whole New World (Aladdin)

My favorite duet of all Disney songs ever, this song is a perfect cross between romantic and motivational. It’s one of the first times Jasmine opens up to Prince Ali, and you feel a sense of relief that he’s finally getting through to her. I’ve never met anyone that hasn’t at least listened to this song once.

2. Circle of Life (The Lion King)

We’re all guilty of randomly shouting “aaaaaa saveniaaaaaa” even though those are definitely not the lyrics. The Lion King definitely has the most iconic opening ever. I can even picture the sun rising if I ever sing it. I do admit, I don’t know the rest of the lyrics though, maybe we should all try to get them right next time.

1. Under the Sea (The Little Mermaid)

Probably one of the most iconic Disney princess songs ever, this for sure is at the top of my list. I play it for the children I teach at my work and they all know and love it, even though this song isn’t even a part of their era. It’s also one of the best upbeat Disney songs to date.
